Suggested tours:
Battle of Franklin
This is my great-great grandfather and some of the blood that cries out from this battlefield is his. Every time I tell the story and walk where he walked... when I stand at his grave with the little granite marker bearing his initials, I am moved.
Mr. Jack
The Carnton
After the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864, many of the wounded and dying soldiers were brought here for surgery and medical assistance. My great-great grandfather is buried on the grounds.
Chip
Over 100 years ago, families of Confederate soldiers installed this memorial. The story has been told that he was given the name "Chip" because during the installation process, his head was dropped and a chip is missing.
The Carter House
The combined armies of the Union and Rebels totaled around 50,000 soldiers. On the grounds of the Carter family, they clashed. Amid the deafening roar of heavy artillery, exploding ordinance, and screaming men, they brandished swords, rifles, shovels, hoes, and anything they could lay their hands. With both sides fighting for liberty as they perceived it, at about 9 PM, 10,000 men lay wounded and dying.
